Mental Health in the Workplace – A Candid Conversation

The Importance of Mental Health in the Workplace

A candid conversation with Chris Coberly and Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas

Chris Coberly, CEO of People Element, sits down with Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, a clinical psychologist and mental health advocate, to discuss the importance of mental health and suicide prevention in the workplace and how it can potentially save lives.

In this conversation, Dr. Spencer-Thomas and Chris Coberly share their personal experiences with mental health along with:

  • The important intersections between HR and mental health
  • How to create a culture of safety for employees
  • Red flags to look for and how to respond to them
  • Legality around HIPAA protections and constraints
  • The steps you can take to support your people

"The majority of people who die by suicide are of working age. Most of them have one attempt and it is fatal, and most have never stepped foot inside any type of mental health resource. So how do we reach them? They've aged out of education, they aren't accessing health care... it's the workplace. The workplace is the most cross-cutting system to make a difference. "
