Nussbaum Transportation is one of the leading truckload carriers in the U.S. For over ten years, they have consistently focused on giving their workforce a voice by gathering feedback through Engagement Surveys using the People Element platform.
Though Nussbaum’s scores consistently exceed global benchmarks, the company is still focused on finding ways to continuously improve favorability and engagement within their driver and non-driver populations.
EMPLOYEE LISTENING
Nussbaum’s annual engagement survey allows them to collect employee feedback and measure favorability across multiple categories including Job Satisfaction, Safety, Operations & Communication. Furthermore, the survey provides them with a consistent measurement of engagement.
TRANSPARENT COMMUNICATION
Each year People Element makes an on-site visit to Nussbaum to present the annual engagement survey results to the Executive Team. However, Nussbaum takes this a step further by having People Element present the results to all levels of the company (Office Staff, Shop, Drivers, Driver Managers, etc.) over a 2-day period. The company has found that this level of transparency helps keep their employees informed, adds an additional layer of accountability, and plays a significant role in maintaining their stellar favorability and engagement levels.
TAKING ACTION
Nussbaum’s efforts do not end with collecting feedback and sharing the results with their employees. Leveraging best practices collected over the many years of conducting the survey, they take the insights derived from the data and put together a multi-faceted plan to act on their employee feedback.
Nussbaum is a purpose and faith-driven transportation company. They are an employee-owned organization and are known as one of the leading truckload service providers in the U.S. In addition to their many accolades, they were inducted into the Truckload Carriers Association’s ‘Best Fleets to Drive For’ Hall of Fame in 2022. Nussbaum’s focus on employee listening, transparent communication and taking action on employee feedback has led the company to amazing results for both their driver and non-driver populations.
DRIVER RESULTS – FAVORABILITY
Since 2020, Nussbaum has seen steady increases in favorability scores year over year. They were able to increase by 5 percentage points over the five-year period. As of 2024, they are boasting an 88% favorability score.
Favorability refers to the percentage of favorable survey responses (4 & 5’s on a 5-point Likert scale of agreement)
DRIVER RESULTS – ENGAGEMENT
Following a similar trend, engagement levels have consistently increased over the past five years. They have seen a 10-percentage point increase since 2020. This year their engagement level hit 81%, an all-time high for the organization.
Nussbaum’s five-year positive trend has proven that there is always room for incremental improvements. Their 2024 Driver and Non-Driver population Engagement Levels were well above People Element’s Global Engagement Benchmark. Over the years, their focus and dedication to listening to their employees and acting on those insights have led them to a highly engaged workforce.
